Echmiadzin or Vagharshapat is the ancient capital of Armenia. In 302 AD, the first Christian cathedral in the world was founded on the site of a pagan temple. The treasury of Echmiadzin houses the Spear of Longinus (the Spear of Destiny) and a fragment of Noah's Ark.
The Ruins of Zvartnots: Zvartnots is a unique 7th-century temple. Its height reached 49 meters, making it one of the tallest early Christian churches in the world. It was destroyed in the 9th century during an earthquake. In 2000, the ruins of Zvartnots and the surrounding area were included in the UNESCO World Heritage list.
