The Nature of Armenia

Armenia is an alpine country, with an average altitude of about 1800 meters. About 40% of the country’s territory is located above 2100 meters above sea level. Due to the cold climate, permanent residence is not possible.

There are 42 mountain ranges, 309 mountains and volcanoes in the territory of Armenia. The highest point is Mount Aragats (4095 meters), the lowest is the gorge of the Debed River (380 m).

9400 rivers flow through the territory of Armenia, the largest of which is the Hrazdan River. The largest lake in Armenia is Sevan . Its maximum depth reaches 80 meters.

Most forests are located in the north of Armenia. The Dilijan Reserve, where deciduous and coniferous natural forests are located, is especially famous. The Khosrov Reserve is no less interesting. In ancient times, it served as a hunting ground for Tsar Khosrov. Now hunting in the forests is prohibited.

In the forests and mountains of Armenia, Armenian mouflon, lynx, brown bears, wild goats, the Red Book and a very rare Western Asian leopard live.
